Built-In Gas Fireplaces

Are you planning on putting a built-in gas fireplace in a renovation
or custom new home?
Make sure you and your contractor are
familiar with the correct order of steps involved in this project!

Choose your gas fireplace first. It is an essential part of the design
of the room, and each fireplace offers different trim options and
finishes to complement the style of the room. All the framing requirements,
mantle clearances, venting specs, etc. are specific to the
model you select and all fireplaces are different.
Too many custom home owners have been disappointed that
they could not fit in their fireplace of choice because the blueprints
did not allow for it, and by the time they came in to choose their
fireplaces, the framing was already done.

If at all possible, try to choose a direct vent gas fireplace (which
can be vented horizontally or vertically) rather than a
B-vented builder's box fireplace.  Direct vents draw outside air
for combustion, are more efficient than B-vents, and ensure
inside air quality.  Once a gas fireplace is built-in and surrounded
with tile, stone, etc. it is not easy to replace it, so be careful to
choose a good quality, efficient fireplace for your new project and
you won't be disappointed.
